Penglai Bohai Shipyard Co. LTD |
||||
Name: Penglai Bohai Shipyard Co. Ltd.. www.pbsco.cn . Location The yard is located on half-way between Beijing and Shanghai at the northwest coast of the Yellow Sea at an peninsula harboring several small-sized shipyards such as Weihai, Rongcheng, Qingdao and Yantai all at a 1-4 hrs car drive. Traveling to Penglai Bohai SY by an 1 hr car drive from Yantai airport. Penglai is a maritime and tourist city. Dalian with its encompassing shipbuilding industry is located at the Penglai-opposite side of the Yellow Sea and can be reached conveniently by plane or by the Yantai-Dalian ferry. Penglai SY cooperates closely with both the Dalian and the Shanghai maritime industry, apart from the local maritime infrastructure. The shipyard is located at the outskirt of Penglai city in a new harbor area. 2 years ago the shipyard moved from its original location in downtown Penglai to the new harbor area allowing the present expansion of the shipyard. Easy access to the shipyard. Description The new shipyard Penglai-Bohai SY is a management buy-out of the old state-owned Penglai Shipyard. Nowadays 51% of the shares are owned by the yard’s general manager Mr. Yang and 49% are owned by staff and workers. Typical products so far are harbor tug boats and small bulk carriers. Under the investment scheme the yard will be upgraded to larger vessels up to 240 m length. The yard is dedicated to more complex vessels such as tug boats and even has a 45 m luxury yacht for Italian owners (!) under construction. The yard will build the entire yacht apart from the interior owner’s area decoration. For cargo vessels, the yard has 4x600 TEU for Pacific Int’l Lines (S’pore) and several 6800 tdw Bulkcarriers for German owners under construction. The yard is located at a sloped 2-level site with the building berth for smaller vessels at the higher level making a complicated launching system with a long longitudinal wheelcarriage slipway necessary. A large 240x58m / 200 t slipway is presently under construction and will be finished mid of 2006. This slipway is not affected by the 2-level site and is equipped with conventional gravity launching tracks. Since the yard is a 1958 established yard and not a newly emerging yard, back guarantees for refundment guarantees may be available but trading houses must be introduced through SMT due to the yard’s lack of experience with export of vessels. Conclusion The yard is in a growing phase from a yard for small-size vessels to a yard for bigger vessels. Spotlighted must be the quality realized by the yard so far for the present vessels and also the professional environment. Based on this backbone and the new 240 m slipway and considering further investments in particular in steel production facilities and human resources, the yard will be able to build CV1300 TEU vessels in a good international shipbuilding quality. |
